Change College / University

If you have a study permit, you may receive an email from us. The email address will end in “@cic.gc.ca.” You must follow the instructions in that email, by the date indicated, to confirm you’re enrolled and actively studying in Canada.

If you Switch College / University without Getting Help of Academic Advisor 

Your former college /university will note that you are not currently enrolled in classes. If this occurs:

• you’re breaking the conditions of your study permit
• you may be asked to leave the country
• this may prevent you from coming to Canada in the future
• For example, you may not be approved for another study or work permit in the future.

Advancing to the Next Level of Schooling

If you are switching school levels while your study permission is still in effect, there is no need to make any changes or submit an application for a new permit. This might be:

• preschool to high school
• Any transition from high school to post-secondary, post-secondary to high school, or another level of education
• You must submit an extension request if your study permit is about to expire.

If your permit has already run out, you must reestablish your student status concurrently with your application to extend your study permit. Within 90 days of losing your status, you must submit an application to regain it. You cannot resume or continue your studies until you are once again registered as a student and we have renewed your study permit.
