How Can I Extend My Stay As a Student?

At least 30 days before your existing permission expires, you should submitan application to extend your study permit. Nevertheless we advise you to apply more than 30 days before the deadline.

A valid study permit is required if you want to renew your Social Insurance Number (SIN) or health insurance. You can have trouble renewing these if you wait until there are only 30 days remaining because your study permit
will be running out.

If Your study Permit Has Already Expired

You are able to stay in Canada if you applied to extend your study permit
before it ran out of validity but haven’t heard back. This is because you’ve kept up with your status. This indicates that you will only be a temporary
resident while we consider your application. Up until a decision is made on
your application, you can continue to study.

You lost your status in Canada if you didn’t apply to extend your study permit. You cannot resume or continue your studies until your status has been cleared and a new study permit has been obtained. Applying to change your status and extend your permit must be done within 90 days. You must pay CAN$200 to restore your status and CAN$150 to get a new one.
